Hold the pen where the methanol is encased and it appears to boil. Since alcohol has a boiling temperature of 149° F, it only seems to boil.

Actually the colored alcohol is simply expanding. As its volume increases, the liquid is forced up from the bottom sphere. The liquid in the bottom sphere quickly exhausts itself and liquid vapor comes through the section connecting the two spheres. This is seen as a 'boiling' liquid.

Dimensions: The pen is 5 1/2" (14 cm) long and 1" (2.54 cm) wide at its widest on top, the stand has a 1 5/8" (4.1 cm) diameter and is 3/4" (1.9 cm) high.
