Our sand is a very large particle of Ultra Green Glow in the Dark Powder.

It can be used in a variety of mediums including plastic, paint, fiberglass, concrete, wax, and gel. If used in a water-based medium such as paint or concrete, it will lose a small amount of brightness over time until the water fully evaporates.

The ultra green is extremely bright; only the ultra green v10 glow paint has greater initial brightness. In its first seconds after charging, it is brighter than the popular Cyalume Glow Sticks. Ultra Green Glow in the Dark Powder is 10 times brighter than the popular Zinc-based glow in the dark products available in most department stores, and it glows for 10 or more hours while appearing almost clear in daylight.

Photoluminescent materials absorb light energy as electrons in their atoms are boosted to high energy levels by absorbing individual light quanta, or photons. Instead of dropping back to where they originally came from, though, these excited electrons transfer to a nearby, intermediate energy level and keep much of the photon energy. Dropping back from this intermediate state, called a metastable state, to ground level is slow going. As these metastable electrons gradually drop back to ground level, they release the rest of their energy as the visible glow we see.
