Observe the thermal expansion of metals in real time. Introduce the basic thermal properties of materials in a clear and semi-quantitative way.
This pyrometer has three samples (aluminum, brass, and mild steel) to show the differences in linear expansion for various materials. Its construction is solid and it has a very nice wood base. We were surprised to find this quality demonstator available at this price.
Everything you need to run the experiment is provided, including instructions and a tea light. (You provide the match to light the candle.) Just mount your sample in place, set the tea light under the middle of the rod, and light it. As the metal rod heats, it expands - pushing a pivoting indicator further along the included scale.
