Grand-daddy of our indoor Galileo thermometers! Hand crafted of blown glass, this multi-colored Galileo indoor thermometer stands a full two feet (61 cm) high. It is made with a 4 inch (10.2 cm) solid glass base to ensure stability.

Its eleven multi-colored temperature spheres are filled with liquid. Each sphere has a Fahrenheit medallion with readings for 62° F, 64° F, 68° F, 70° F, 72° F, 74° F, 76° F, 78° F, 80° F, 82° F, and 84° F.

To find the temperature, read the medallion value of the lowest floating sphere. That is the approximate room temperature.

Liquid density is a function of temperature. Galileo (1564-1642) ran a series of experiments to quantify the temperature dependence of water density. He placed liquid-filled glass spheres in water and observed their rise and fall as the water temperature fluctuated. Click here to learn more.
