This multi-colored Galileo indoor thermometer is hand made of blown glass and stands 17" (43.2 cm) high. There are seven temperature spheres filled with blue, amber, midnight, red, or emerald green liquid. Each sphere has a Fahrenheit 24 K gold plated medallion with a reading of 70° F, 72° F, 74° F, 76° F, 78° F, 80° F, or 82° F.

To find the temperature, read the medallion value of the lowest floating sphere. That is the approximate room temperature.

Liquid density is a function of temperature. Galileo (1564-1642) ran a series of experiments to quantify the temperature dependence of water density. He placed liquid-filled glass spheres in water and observed their rise and fall as the water temperature fluctuated. Click here to learn more.
