Written in 1884 by Edwin A. Abbott, Flatland is a classic mathematical science fiction with illustrations by the author. The book follows the journeys of A. Square and his adventures in Spaceland (three dimensions), Lineland (one dimension) and Pointland (no dimensions). A. Square also entertains thoughts of visiting a land of four dimensions — a revolutionary idea for which he is banished from Spaceland.
We highly recommend this book which has been a favorite of ours for many years. By grasping the idea of life in two-dimensions it becomes possible to conceive of a four or higher dimensional reality. The book is well-suited for ages 14 and up. Click to preview the book's back cover, table of contents and a sample page.
