We are pleased to offer this high quality top, which is made in south-central Pennsylvania.
The wooden holder helps get a nice spin on the top. This top used to be considered ideal as a child's first big-kid top!
How does it work? Conservation of angular momentum keeps the top upright.
- Newton's Laws applied to spinning objects say that angular momentum is conserved when there is no outside torque at work.
- The torque applied by gravity causes the top to lean and the axis of the top to precess - spin around slowly in the direction of the top
- Friction on the top slows it down and makes it lean closer to the ground.
