The Engine Cycle - An Application of Newton's 3rd Law
|
As the steam bubble forms the pressure inside the boiler pan increases until a rush of hot
water and steam are expelled through the jets. The boiler output is projects backwards,
away from the boat. By Newton's Third Law we know that for every action there is an equal
and opposite reaction. Therefore, the boat is forced forward as the hot water and steam
go backward.
